I stumbled across this photo on Cathy of California about 3 years ago, and I fell in love with these vintage felt ornaments. They are made from a pattern in "christmas helps 1965" a family circle publication. I became a little obsessed, trying to track down a pattern or just one of these ornaments, anything. I have been searching for years, and last week I found a set of 16 on Etsy!!! And they are just perfect in person. So colorful, whimsical and playful. I adore them. I really can’t stop looking at them. The crafter who made my set picked out wonderful, eclectic color combinations that you just don’t see very often. So inspiring! I had to set up a mini fake tree just to share some photos with you.
These last two are my favorites. I love how some of the sequins are missing on the blue bird on the left. And the colors and details of the one on the right are so unusual and fabulous. That ric-rac detail is just adorable and the lavender with the white and orange is brilliant!

so cool that you found those ornaments! thanks for posting
I have a set that my Mom & I made back in the 60s. They are such charming little birds -- I am happy to see them still being made! Congrats on the find!
My mother actually created the original pattern for these, I have all the original drawings and patterns that were used by family circle and I have all the birds she made, they have become our family tradition! It's great to see these! She has been gone for 35 years now.
@ anonymous...any way to get a copy of the patterns?
Oh they are delightful! I can imagine the thrill of unpacking these every Christmas from now on - agree about those fabulous vintage colourways, people just don't "think" in those colour combinations any more!
I think you have to find a copy of the Family Circle Christmas Helps magazine from 1965 to get the pattern. I don't have the magazine. I just found this adorable set of ornaments.
